The Bank of England has held the base rate at 3.75% for the sixth consecutive meeting, providing some welcome stability for buyers and homeowners.

However, the outlook could be changing. Some mortgage rates increased yesterday as lenders reacted to expectations of a potential rate rise, and 3 of the 9 Bank of England committee members voted to increase the base rate to 4%.

With inflation remaining above target, further rate rises are still a possibility.

For anyone considering a move, the period before Christmas could present a good opportunity to buy. Rather than waiting for rates to fall, buyers may want to explore what they can afford now while there’s plenty of choice on the market.
