“This little cottage has a story.”
Long before it became a holiday cottage, this was a slate quarrier's cottage.
Luing is famous for its slate, which has been quarried on the island for generations. We love knowing that the cottage is part of that history.
It's now a comfortable place to escape to, but there are still reminders of the island's past all around you.

No need to go anywhere. Just watch the sea, the sky, the weather and whatever happens to be passing by. One of our favourite things about it is that the view changes constantly.
Morning mist - Bright sunshine - Rain sweeping across the water - Sea birds - Dramatic skies. We never get tired of it.

Welcome to our little corner of the Isle of Luing.

A cosy former slate quarrier's cottage, sitting right on the shore in the Inner Hebrides.

Here, the days are a little slower.

Walks begin at the door. Sea birds are regular visitors and resident otters might appear along the shore.

When evening comes, there's a warm cottage, a crackling fire and nowhere you need to rush off to.

If you're looking for a peaceful escape from the everyday, you might just have found it.

Gathered a few of my lovely Isle of Luing neighbours for a very important bit of gin research…
We sampled three test recipes, and it seems we have a clear winner! The results on the board show them ranked by each taste tester into 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.
We also managed to squeeze in quite a bit of w**e, gin cocktails and a BBQ… 🍷🍹🔥
A brilliant evening with great company, plenty of laughs, and one step closer to finding the perfect Slate Islands Gin. 💙🥃

Apologies for a ‘non-Shore Cottage’ post but I just wanted to share that I’m in the process of setting up a new business and if any of you enjoy a cheeky G & T you might like to follow my new brand, Slate Islands Spirits.

Inspired by the rugged beauty and heritage of Scotland's Slate Islands where Shore Cottage is located, our focus is on creating distinctive, carefully crafted spirits that celebrate the character of the islands and the people who call them home.

Lots of interesting boats have been visiting the harbour this week. The big sailing boat was built in the 1960s for a Greek professor, and its current owner invited us on board, treating us to drinks and nibbles while sharing stories about the boat’s fascinating history.
It’s just one example of the lovely people who become part of the community on Luing – even if they’re only visiting for a short time.
