Meet Norman – Dry Stone Wall Association Master Craftsman - otherwise known as Duncan’s Dad.

When Norman comes up to visit his son (our Head Gardener), he likes to make the most of his time in Morvern. Some people take a holiday and put their feet up, not Norman.

This is the wall at Keil, our local church, before and after Norman, Duncan and Michael got to work on it. A rather wonderful bit of local craftsmanship, carried out simply because he was here on holiday and couldn’t resist.

🍂🍄 Open up the door to the cosy season with late-availability offers on self-catering cottages and Victorian apartments this Autumn.

We’re ready to welcome back all the things we love about autumn. The woodlands turn from green to gold, the mornings grow darker, the rivers swell and the sound of the Red Deer rut carries over the hills.

It’s the season for long walks without another soul in sight - coming home with muddy boots, cold cheeks and a good excuse to light the fire.

For wild venison stew bubbling on the hob. For slow mornings with a crossword in bed and... nowhere else you need to be.

"Who pulled the plug?" 💧

Loch Rannoch is looking a little empty at the moment; anybody would be forgiven for thinking we've had a dry summer!

🔧Loch Rannoch is a man-made hydro reservoir, created by damming the River Rannoch as part of Ardtornish’s hydro programme. It has been intentionally drained while essential repairs are carried out to the dam wall.

With the water gone, a hidden landscape has been revealed, including traces of the excavation carried out when the reservoir was first created and the contours of the valley that normally lie beneath.

What we see today is just one chapter in a much longer story. Long before the hydro scheme, the land was home to people, livestock and working settlements, and traces of that earlier landscape can still be found.

For now, the repair work has temporarily given us a glimpse of a landscape that is usually hidden beneath the water — before the River Rannoch covers it once again 🌿💧

For us, it looks a little like this. Washing on the line, a cottage door left open to the sunshine, muddy boots by the step and the feeling that, for a little while, you belong here.

Our traditional cottages see generation after generation of families coming to enjoy time in nature - remeniscing on first visits and creating first time memories, and all the while growing our Ardtornish family.
