Oxford City Council Selective Licensing Scheme starts in LESS THAN 24 HOURS! Are you ready?
If you own a rented property within the area governed by Oxford City Council, that is not a HMO, then it is very likely to fall under the new Selective Licensing Scheme, STARTING TOMORROW!
Failing to licence your property could mean:
- The council can issue a financial penalty of up to £30,000 or on summary conviction at court receive an unlimited fine.
- Tenants can apply to the First-tier Tribunal for a rent repayment order to reclaim up to 12 months’ rent back. Rent can only be claimed from 01 September 2022 when the Selective Licence scheme starts. The tenants must demonstrate to the Tribunal they paid the rent.
- From 01 September 2022, section 21 notice cannot be served to end the tenancy while the house remains unlicensed
