🎺 Back by popular demand… again.

Following last week’s statistically significant increase in social media engagement (up over 100%, according to sources close to the investigation), Fun Fact Thursday returns.

Whether this is due to the quality of the content or the fact that people accidentally clicked on it while trying to cool their phones remains unclear.

☀️ Meanwhile, the sun continues its relentless campaign to turn Oxfordshire into the south of France. Lawns are crispy, dogs are seeking shade, and we’re all one ice cream away from declaring independence from sensible temperatures.

🎵 Today’s Fun Fact: Middle Aston was actually the largest of the three Astons during medieval times. That’s right — today’s peaceful village was once the local heavyweight champion.

Which proves that you should never judge a village by its population.

And that’s exactly why we love village life. Small villages, big personalities, great communities, and events that bring everyone together.

Which is rather fitting, because this weekend Middle Aston looks set to punch well above its weight once again as the Middle Aston Tribute Festival rolls into town.

Expect fantastic tribute acts, great food, refreshments, and the sort of atmosphere that reminds you why village events are often the very best events.

So if you’re wondering what to do this weekend, why not head over, enjoy the music, catch up with friends, and make the most of what promises to be another glorious summer’s day.

🎺 Back by popular demand…

Well, by “popular demand” I mean one person asked where Fun Fact Thursday had gone. That person was my boss. Whether she genuinely missed it or was simply checking I was still working remains unclear.

So, in true British fashion, Fun Fact Thursday returns from its brief and entirely unreported absence.

🇫🇷 Today’s Fun Fact: When the Bastille was stormed on 14 July 1789, there were only seven prisoners inside. Despite being almost empty, it became one of the most important symbols of the French Revolution.

Which rather neatly brings me to the Bastille Festival at The Horse & Groom this weekend – with great ales, great food, live music and, most importantly, excellent company.

And there’s a property lesson in there somewhere…

Just like selling your home, it only takes one. One buyer. One offer. One person who sees the potential. Much like my one subscriber.

As for the current hosepipe ban, perhaps we can all do our bit for Thames Water by consuming local refreshments instead of watering the garden. Purely in the interests of public service, of course. 🍺😉

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to start preparing next week’s Fun Fact Thursday before my sole subscriber starts complaining again. 🍻 🇫🇷 🇫🇷

Even though the clocks move forward, our body clocks take a few days to catch up 😴

The good news? Lighter evenings are just around the corner 🌅
