We had a survey today that should have us excited at the prospect of a large contract.
In reality it only made us feel sorry for our client with what will be required, to sort out the large area of Japanese knotweed observed, to make full use of the land they own.
I hate having to give the bad news of the potential costs involved in the remediation options of sites of this size/ location for development and I believe that is what makes us stand out from others in this trade.
We will work together to hopefully find the best solution within their budget and timescale without destroying the prospect of their future plans but it's going to require a lot of thought, compromise and expertise to achieve.
I'm glad they contacted us first for an honest, transparent and sensibly suitable solution.

For the last couple of months we have been all over the country servicing our clients as well as taking on all remaining contracts for another knotweed company that has ceased their services and trusted us to complete what they have left to honour.
We have been to Dumfries, Dunfermline, Dundee, Aberdeen, Inverness, John O Groats, Skye, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Irvine and all the places in between. Dodging or laying low during bad weather, this year has gone quite smoothly.
Certainly feeling the inflated fuel costs with so many miles covered! But it would take a lot to prevent enjoying all the wonderful corners, coasts and cities on the journey.

Did you know there is a treatment window for Japanese knotweed?
If you have had yours treated before late August, it was probably too early.
The best time is after the flowering stage and at least 2 weeks before the first frost.
Unfortunately many companies spread out visits through the summer to keep their staff busy but it is counterproductive and can result in the plant becoming resistant to herbicides and requiring far longer management to bring under control.

We don't do that. We understand how crucial timing for treatment is.

It's not too late to get a management plan in place with us.

Invasive weeds, whilst typically observed and dealt with during the summer months, do have all year round solutions.
Our first site of the year involves remediation of a Horsetail infestation in Wishaw. The site boundary has been protected with a suitable root barrier membrane to ensure no damage to future footpaths and driveways on this council housing development.
Prevention is always better than the cure!

Onto our next job in Johnstone at Cartside Mill.
A 2000m2 area of Japanese knotweed to be excavated with hand picking of the worst of the rhizomes and a 5-year treatment plan on the area after completely breaking up the root network.
We have saved our client a 6 figure sum for disposal costs whilst ensuring no further spread and lasting results.
