Important MCA Update: New Regulations phasing in this week ⚓

The MCA has confirmed that the new Merchant Shipping (Vessels in Commercial Use for Sport or Pleasure) Regulations 2025 will begin to apply from 12 December 2025.

These updates modernise safety standards and provide a framework for alternative fuels. The regulations apply initially to new vessels entering the Code for the first time, with a gradual transition for existing vessels. Ensuring compliance is critical. Whether you are coding a new vessel or managing a renewal, our YDSA Coding Surveyors are best placed to guide you through these changes.

Great opportunity with a great existing team at the marina

If you’re looking to explore a career within the marine industry and want to work in a diverse role with training provided – we have the role for you!

Here at boatfolk we share a passion for boating and getting people out on the water. We are now part of the UK’s largest marina group, Premier Marinas, operating 22 coastal locations across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. But we’re about so much more than just marinas, whether it’s our onsite yacht brokers or boat repairs services - everything we do is about delivering the best possible experience for our community.

We are looking to recruit a Marina Berthing Master at Penarth Marina on the Bristol Channel. The successful candidate will be joining a friendly, dedicated team who work hard to provide the highest levels of customer service and satisfaction. This multi-facetted role is a great opportunity for a customer focused individual with a flexible work ethic to join our team in a busy, purpose-built marina and boatyard.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate the following:
Proven customer service or customer facing experience
Flexibility and adaptability to both marina and boatyard operations
Ability to learn and use computer software systems
“A can do" attitude and flexible approach to teamwork
Be able to stay calm under pressure
Work a 12 hour shift pattern including nights, weekeends and bank holidays.

SHE PASSED!

Beautiful day for a mid cycle coding inspection today, suns out light winds, no rain! Odyssey passed her mid term inspection.

A big thank you to Ben Sutcliffe Marine Surveyor for the highly professional service as ever.

Next on the list, a lift out for a full engine service and I’m sure Emma Evans will make sure she’s super clean to show me up 😂

She’ll soon be raring to go back out on the fish 🙂

Never a boring day surveying for an annual MCA workboat audit!

At MCA workboat code inspection so important the small things like an inclometer for a deck crane to ensure the vessel doesn't heal beyond the limits.

Nothing worse than waiting for a plane! On way back from porto for another orca attacked vessel. Apparently 4 of them played with this craft Interesting find with this one..that while disabled the steering she didn't suffer any structural damage. Certainly makes Tom Cunliffe - Sailor, Author & Broadcaster theory of long keel keel hung rudders a worthy theory that ive always agreed with him on!!!
