I just love this look. The dark parallel lines, ultra-smooth to the touch and a clear water finish, like a still lake at dawn. It's a classic aesthetic that never fails to impress my clients and never goes out of fashion.

Original Georgian floorboards (circa late 1700s/early 1800s), and the transformation is charming. During the Georgian era, these wide-plank boards were almost always cut from old-growth timber. The trees grew slowly in dense forests, and the grain is much tighter and more durable than anything you can buy today. The width of these boards alone tells a story of a time when timber was plentiful and houses were built to last forever. Imagine -- these Georgian boards have survived the Regency era, the Victorian age, and two world wars! They have a character that only two hundred years plus of life can provide. I think they’ve finally found their best look.

It's always a pleasure when a customer tells me my work has transformed their home, but I rarely get to see the final result. I'm thrilled that one customer kindly sent me photos after replacing their furniture, revealing how truly delightful the space now looks. It's like a spread from a home catalog!

Prepping and repairing these 1860s lounge and entrance hallway softwood pine floors was a considerable job. The hallway floor was extensively damaged in several areas having endured both time, heavy use and messy disregard from plumbing and electrical works. A major challenge was removing stubborn residues, including patches of bitumen and very old True Linoleum, which has a woven jute or canvas/hessian backing secured by a thick layer of adhesive. It's rewarding to see the finished floors coming out nicely in the end.

This floor was a bituminous, dusty grey-brown before sanding and refinishing. The wood, Scots Pine, native to Scotland, is typical for the period this house was built (1900 to 1929) but grown in either one of the Baltic states (Estonia, Lithuania or Latvia), or in Scandinavia, where the colder climate results in slower growth and a more dense grain structure. The newly installed 20mm oak threshold ramp in the foreground, cut and finished with a clear, silkmatt lacquer, highlights this beautiful transformation.
