Here’s what I’ve been up to for the last two weeks: a complete kitchen respray 📸
First, I removed the doors, drawer fronts and existing handles. The new handles had different fixing points, so every old handle hole had to be filled, allowed to dry and sanded flush. I then sanded the existing surfaces to prepare them for painting and thoroughly removed the dust.
Next came the masking. The glass, worktops, appliances, floors and surrounding areas all needed protecting before I could spray the fixed cabinetry. I also turned a gazebo into a pop-up spray booth so the doors and removable panels could be sprayed separately.
After priming, I checked the surfaces and sanded between coats using the appropriate grit grades, moving to finer abrasives as the finish built up. Each stage was cleaned down before the next coat was sprayed. It takes time, but that preparation is what helps produce a smooth, consistent finish.
Once the painting was complete, I removed the masking, refitted the doors and drawer fronts, and installed the new handles. The lighter outer cupboards and green island have completely refreshed the kitchen.
A massive thank you to the customers for all the coffees and for being so patient while I took over their kitchen for two weeks. They had to use the utility room and dining room as a temporary kitchen throughout the job. You just can’t rush perfection! They’re hands down some of the nicest customers I’ve worked for, and it’s been a pleasure working with them.
