Bad news on my favourite lorry - we are getting rid of it, a few months before its MoT runs out, due to a slightly leaky fuel tank.

From memory, it's a 1998 7½ ton MAN chassis. I bought it with a brand new body in 2001 for £26,000. So you could say that the depreciation has cost me £1000 per year since then.

Many happy memories with this truck - for example, I once moved someone from Romsey to Cognac in France and had a holiday at the same time. And I moved a friend from Romsey to a village near Frankfurt, Germany - again in the summer and had a "road trip".

Due to some legal exemption which I never understood, we didn't have to fit a speed restrictor to this truck, meaning that you could safely overtake all the lorries piling up in the slow lane on motorways. And being 7½ ton, it was exempted from the weekend HGV restrictions on German motorways - something which I made use of in the past.

If any one reading this wants to buy it, please contact me this week, as I'll be making a quick decision - I've already had one offer.

We acquired some cartons this week from Tripp & Son of Beaconsfield who did a removal from Maidenhead to Romsey. When their customer had finished unpacking, she brought us the unwanted cartons so that we can reuse them.

So please note that if we move you "out of area" then local removal companies would willingly take your cartons - even if they are Bradb**rs branded.

Most customers who move or store with us collect and return their own cartons. If you do this, please drive your car into the warehouse entrance and stop on the yellow hatching - it makes the process much quicker. If you pop in, ask for cartons, paper and tape.

Here is a recommendation if you are driving up the M1 at Northampton (junction 16). This is a proper old school Transport Caff where you get lots of food at low cost and a mug of tea the size of a flower-pot.

You can also have a shower, buy high viz jackets & jump leads, and park your lorry round the back - and go through the truck wash, if you like.

I can't recommend this place enough. You can also get there by car, so don't worry if you're not a lorry driver! One of those cars is mine - I was on my way up north last week.

Edit: - My youngest son says that Bruno's in Soho, London is better, but you have to walk there. It's located at the corner of Wardour and Peter Streets.

This was the sight that greeted me at last month's BAR* meeting, of which I am the newly elected local chairman. There were a couple of big names in the room, such as Ian Palmer, the boss of White & Co, so I was in good hands.

Normally we meet at the Romsey Golf Club, which is the geographical centre of our region. But this is the second time now that we have switched it around and watched a game of cricket afterwards, whilst sipping a b**r and talking shop.
