π Starting today: Iprosurvβs 2-Day Basic Mapping & Photogrammetry Course
Today we welcome another group of drone pilots onto our two-day Basic Mapping & Photogrammetry Course, designed specifically to help operators take their first proper steps into drone mapping.
For many pilots, mapping is the natural progression from simply flying a drone.
The question is: how do you turn a flight into useful, professional data that meets the clientβs expectations?
Over the next two days, our students will work through the complete basic mapping workflow, from understanding the client brief through to capturing and processing the data.
They will be learning:
π What information you need from the client before planning the mission
π How to understand what the client actually expects from the final output
π How to set up automated mapping missions
π Choosing suitable flight height, speed and camera settings
π Understanding frontlap, sidelap and image overlap
π How different settings can affect the quality of the finished model
π How to plan for successful data capture the first time
π Importing and processing captured imagery
π Producing basic 2D maps and 3D photogrammetry models
π Understanding the different processing software available to suit different budgets and requirements
One of the biggest messages we teach is that the drone pilot is not simply there to fly.
The pilot should also be able to advise the client.
A client might ask for a βdrone mapβ, but what do they actually need?
What area needs capturing?
What level of detail is required?
What accuracy do they expect?
How will they use the finished data?
Do they need a 2D orthomosaic, 3D model or something more specialist?
Understanding those questions before the aircraft leaves the ground is a crucial part of delivering a professional service.
This course is about giving pilots a practical starting point.
You do not need to arrive as a surveyor or photogrammetry expert. Over these two days, we aim to give you the fundamental knowledge and practical workflow needed to start understanding and delivering basic drone mapping projects.
From there, you can continue developing into more advanced areas including RTK, GCPs, higher-accuracy survey workflows, LiDAR and specialist geospatial applications.
