You may have noticed scaffold appearing over the last week - we are delighted that our fundraising has reached a point at which we are able to complete the first stage of our roof renovations.

The club remains open to members - we apologise for any disruption during building works and would like to thank our friendly builders for their efforts during the heatwave ☀️

To round off Volunteers Week (https://volunteersweek.org/) we’d like to make a post highlighting some of the work our dedicated team of volunteers at Heron Court carry out.

You’ll no doubt be aware that over the past two years the Friends of Heron Court have worked tirelessly, either in coming together for organised workparties or giving of spare moments, quietly and in their own time to maintain and landscape the grounds, or chip in with painting and decorating the interior.

The Friends team is made up of snooker club members and local residents, including a number of our immediate neighbours.

Did you know though, that Rugeley Snooker Club itself is run entirely by volunteers? The Committee and Trustees all have day jobs and other commitments. As custodians of the club and our stunning building, we seek no personal gain, giving of our time to protect this small but significant corner of Rugeley’s heritage and indeed that of the sport of Snooker.

Volunteers come together to make every decision it takes to keep club and building going. They work independently to staff the bar, buy the stock, maintain the tables, empty light meters, do the banking, maintain the finances, perform all necessary correspondence, maintain online presence, organise events and fundraisers, stage performances, liaise with external agencies and the list goes on and on.

Often, volunteering can amount to a full time job, even on top of a full time job, such is the passion among our small but dedicated team.

Shortly, as a result of all the voluntary work that has been carried out at Heron Court Hall, you will begin to see some very visible changes. We have succeeded in raising sufficient funds to complete the first of two stages of roof renovation, a project that will in time help to safeguard our building from the top down. Following this we will look to address stonework.

We’d like to thank everyone who has contributed in any way to this project, whether it be those who helped organise and staff the events staged over the past two years - and all who visited and donated, to those working tirelessly behind the scenes, however many hours you put in - every minute is appreciated, adds up and contributes to all we do here.

This year, we celebrate 175 years of Heron Court Hall.
Without our volunteers we could not possibly have made it this far.

If you would like to become involved with the Friends of Heron Court Hall, whether it be painting and decorating, gardening - even adopting a planter to maintain - or if you have any other skills you feel you could lend to our cause please do send us a message.

Once again, many thanks to our dedicated Friend and Member, Phil, who works tirelessly to assist in the keeping of our grounds, in particular the lawn and lovely flower bed.

“Delighted to make a start on making the Hall grounds look a little more attractive this evening, no dodging the rain this time. 2 hours and 5 batteries later and first cut done, long enough to keep a flock of sheep satisfied for a week however!”

- Phil, Friend of Heron Court

Evening all!

Now that No Mow May is over, our garden tidy up begins.

If you would be happy to join us for a few hours on one of the proposed dates, please follow the link to signal your availability:

We will schedule a Workparty accordingly.

Special thanks to our Phil, who had already made a head start on cutting the grass (and bluebell remnants!) this evening.

Please signal your availability to assist in a workparty primarily geared towards tidying the grounds of Heron Court - there are indoor jobs including painting for those who prefer, or in the event of adverse weather.
