A closer look at our trip to The Hastings Commons 👀

Owen, our amazing videographer (and board member!), has pulled together this video from our visit a few weeks ago, where we spent time seeing how a Community Land Trust works in practice.

If you want to dive deeper, the full video is now live on YouTube…
FULL VIDEO: https://youtu.be/rRk6nom14S8?si=RNybwn3bktX9Niz4

You’ll hear from Ripley, one of our board members, see some of the incredible buildings and community spaces, and hear from Jess Steele about the work happening there - all of which is helping shape our thinking as we build things here in Runcorn.

A big thank you again to The Hastings Common for having us, and to the Nelson group who we shared the trip with 🤝

As always, we’re still figuring things out and taking it one step at a time 💙

“And I think that’s the magic of a CLT.”

In this clip, Andrew Beatie, Chair of Homebaked CLT, talks about what really makes a Community Land Trust work.

It’s people coming together.
It’s mutual and voluntary support.
It’s creating space for the weird, the interesting, the imaginative ideas that make a place feel alive.

Housing and buildings matter… but it’s community effort and shared purpose that bring it all to life.

What is a Community Land Trust?
Episode 1 of the Runcorn CLT Podcast is live 🎤

In our first live episode, we’re joined by Paul Kelly from the National CLT Network, who breaks down what a CLT is and how it creates lasting, community-led change.

We also chat with Andrew Beatie and Rachael Branton from Homebaked Community Land Trust in Anfield, exploring how CLTs go beyond land and buildings… building imagination, mutual support and the “weird and wonderful” things that help a community truly thrive.

If you’re curious about how communities can shape their own future, this is the place to start! 💙

We spent the weekend in Hastings visiting another Community Land Trust 🌊

Although we know that every town is different, what we found helpful was simply seeing a CLT in real life, run by local people, shaped over time, with all the learning that comes with that.

It got us talking about what community ownership can look like, how decisions get made, and how spaces can stay rooted in the people who use them.

We’re still at the early stages here in Runcorn, but trips like this help us ask better questions as we keep building things together.

Big thanks to The Hastings Commons for welcoming us in and sharing their experience, and to the Nelson group who are also just starting out - it was good to learn alongside others on a similar journey.

We’ll share more from the trip soon. For now, it’s back to the behind-the-scenes work, one step at a time 💙

Happy New Year everyone 💙

We’re honestly blown away by the response so far. Not only are we already the second biggest Community Land Trust (CLT) in Merseyside, but we’re also one of the fastest growing… which is pretty amazing for Runcorn Old Town!

There’s been lots happening behind the scenes as we get everything set up properly, from official board roles to legal and admin bits, which is why things have been a little quiet since launch. Trust us, it’s all for a good reason.

If you’ve applied to be a CLT member, please check your email inbox (and junk folder, this is our first email to you!) as you should have received an invite to our first online Membership Welcome session.

Please make sure you register via the invite so we know roughly how many people are attending. Spaces are limited for this first session and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

We’re so excited to get started and can’t wait to build something that truly supports our town. Thank you for being part of Runcorn Old Town CLT, and as always if you have any questions, just drop us a message 💙

We’re still buzzing from our launch event, and we wanted to share a few photos captured by one of our members, Owen Nosal 💙

A HUGE thank you to everyone who came along, asked questions, shared ideas, and applied to become a member. We’ve had nearly 150 membership applications already (!!), and we’re honestly blown away.

Right now we’re doing a bit of prep behind the scenes… and we’ll be in touch with everyone who’s applied over the next couple of weeks. As well as more updates, content and next steps very soon!

If you’d like to get involved in the Community Land Trust, you can still become a member via our website. The more local voices involved, the better 👏

Thanks for all the comments, questions and support this week… we didn’t expect to make this big of a splash 🌊

We’re gathering all your amazing ideas right now and can’t wait to share more with you!

But first… a quick clarification: we’re not the council.

Just a group of local volunteers running Runcorn Old Town Community Land Trust.

We’re working with Halton Borough Council to test the waters on how buildings like The Pool could become community-led spaces in the future. We want the community to help shape this with us… which is what a CLT is all about 💙

And because so many of you have asked who’s behind it all… meet our current board members! You may recognise some of these faces 👀

We’ve had 100+ membership applications in one week (!!) and we’ll be in touch soon with next steps. If you would like to join, you can apply via our website!

Thank you… this is just the first wave 💙

Yesterday was our first big Community Land Trust (CLT) event, and you absolutely showed up 💙

A huge thank you to everyone who came along, supported us, and helped make the day such a success. Seeing so many people from our community together in one room was incredible. This is exactly what the CLT is all about: local people shaping local spaces.

Here’s a quick look at what we got up to 👇

✨ Jochem from Halton Borough Council kicked things off with a look at Reconnecting Runcorn - what’s already happened in the Old Town and some exciting projects still to come.
✨ Andrew from Kindred shared the first look at our Reimagining Runcorn project, delivered this summer with support from Kindred, the CLT, Halton Borough Council and Halton & St Helens Voluntary and Community Action (more on this very soon!).
✨ We recorded a live podcast all about what a CLT actually is, joined by Homebaked Community Land Trust and the CLT Network.
✨ Followed by another live podcast episode, launching Runcorn Old Town CLT, diving into what the CLT means for Runcorn, your questions, and of course… The Pool!
✨ We enjoyed an unbelievable buffet from Society (huge thank you for hosting us 💙) whilst watching a screening of Rabble Rousers, hosted by Josh from Anfield People’s Cinema - an inspiring film about the first CLT in New York!
✨ And finally… live music from Junior Dayvis and friends to close the night perfectly.

We’ll be sharing content from each part of the event - including the podcast recordings and video highlights - over the next week 👀

And this is just the start.

If you’ve got questions, ideas, or want to get involved, our inbox is always open. More updates coming very soon 💙
