Recently completed in Cowes — an early Georgian chimney brought back from the brink after years of exposure to harsh seafront conditions. 🌊

This one had truly run its course. We carefully dismantled it, lowering each brick down three tiers of scaffold, cleaning and sorting them so they could be reused in their original positions. With listed planning constraints in place, retaining as much original material as possible was key.

We installed period-sensitive stepped slate trays, along with new step flashing and a new apron to the front. The chimney was then rebuilt using a slaked hot lime mix for maximum breathability, following the original construction methods.

For the finish, we pointed using wooden lapping tools and a churn brush — traditional techniques that really bring the work to life. The result speaks for itself. 😍

The flaunching was mixed with locally sourced horsehair from Calbourne, keeping materials as true to their origins as possible.

It’s these small, thoughtful details that make heritage projects stand out.

A pleasure as always 💪
