To celebrate International Dog Day, Ruby and I (along with one of her bezzies, Bramble) went for a lovely walk along the coast path by Wheal Coates this morning. A very low tide and a few hopeful surfers were spotted (it’s been flat for weeks, much to my daughter’s disgust!) Hope all your dogs have enjoyed their day too. 🐶❤️ For doggie guests at Whitegate Cottage, they get their own welcome basket with fancy treats!

I made this little sign years ago as a warning of the low arch leading from the lounge to the kitchen at Whitegate Cottage, after my partner ran for the phone once and smacked his head!

Childhood poverty, poor nutrition and starting heavy manual work at an early age meant that the average height for a Cornish miner was only about 5’2”…Life must have been very hard back in those days and its amazing to think of the cottage’s first residents and what their lives must have been like.

It’s very dry here now after weeks of very little rain and some very hot sun - we had a wildfire up on the Beacon a few years ago which was devastating to the wildlife up there and it took a few years for the land to recover…Please be careful, wherever you may be!

One of my very top walks in St Agnes, from the foot of The Beacon, down towards the Coastguard hut, past the old SAS Ball site, then veering off to the left to join the SW Coast Path. Not one, but two benches with the most incredible views, then back along past iconic Wheal Coates, via the Wheal Coates tea room for a cool drink/coffee/slice of cake/ice cream then back home before it gets too hot for the dog. I even heard skylarks and saw my first ever male linnet up there today, as well as plenty if swallows swooping and diving for insects.Simply blissful!

So, one of my other jobs is the occasional Artist Liaison job at local festivals, thanks to SW1 Productions that I set up with my good friend Katy many years ago…
At this year’s The Great Estate we were joined by these very excited ladies who went on stage with Sophie Ellis Bextor for “Murder on the Dancefloor”. I am very obviously the totally unglamorous (and seemingly extremely short!) one in the yellow jumper.

Rogue Theatre do fabulous shows in the woods at Tehidy, near Portreath. A mix of song, dance, physical theatre and good old fashioned (and humourous!) storytelling, their shows are a real treat for young and old…
If your trip to Whitegate Cottage coincides with a show, especially if you are visiting with children, I would recommend booking yourself tickets! I especially love the Christmas shows where you step through a gate to find Old Man Winter weaving fabulous festive tales - magical!
