☀️🌱 LAWNS BOUNCING BACK AFTER THE HEAT 🌱☀️
What a difference a bit of rain and cooler weather can make!
After the extreme heat and prolonged dry spells we've had this year, a lot of lawns were left looking completely brown, dry and, in some cases, almost dead.
But something a lot of people don't realise is that brown doesn't necessarily mean dead.
During prolonged periods of heat and drought, established grass can go dormant. It effectively shuts down and conserves energy to protect itself. While everything above ground can look dry and lifeless, the crown and root system can survive underneath, waiting for better growing conditions.
We had a few funny looks this summer when we were still cutting lawns that looked brown and dry 😂 but there was a reason behind what we were doing.
Where conditions allowed, we continued maintaining the lawns without cutting them too short, and we used mulch mowing rather than constantly removing the clippings.
Mulching chops the grass clippings finely and returns them back into the lawn, where they break down and recycle nutrients and organic matter rather than taking everything away every time the lawn is cut.
The aim wasn't to make a drought-stressed lawn look perfectly green — you can't beat Mother Nature — it was about managing it properly and putting it in the best possible position to recover when the weather eventually changed.
And now we're seeing the results 👇

Some of the lawns that looked completely finished only weeks ago are now looking better and stronger again.
It's a good reminder that during extreme heat, don't panic just because your lawn turns brown. Avoid scalping it and give it the opportunity to recover when conditions improve.
Sometimes the best lawn care is understanding what the grass is doing rather than simply judging it by how green it looks.
And to everyone who thought we were mad cutting brown grass during the heat... there was a method to the madness 😂🌱
