🌳 Out and about in Coulby Newham this weekend! 🌳

We’ve been busy carrying out tree inspections for a local social housing provider, helping them stay on top of their duty of care and keep residents safe.

We’re using the QTRA (Quantified Tree Risk Assessment) method to make sure our assessments are fair, balanced and in line with their Tree Risk Management Policy.

🌳 Back on the page after a little while away and what better way to return than with this magnificent Eucalyptus standing tall at a school in Scarborough!

This is the third year we’ve carried out tree inspections here on behalf of the Trust, as part of their regular inspection cycle. This year, we’ve implemented the VALID Tree Risk Assessment, with the Trust adopting a Tree Risk–Benefit Management Strategy to balance safety with the many benefits these trees provide.

It’s always a pleasure to see trees like this thriving in school grounds providing shade, character, and learning opportunities for pupils, all while being managed responsibly for the long term. 🌿

🌳✨ One of the most enchanting discoveries on our Copenhagen trip was the Pacifier Tree in Frederiksberg Gardens! This majestic hornbeam is adorned with dummies from children who bravely bid farewell to their pacifiers, creating a colorful, heartwarming display.

Located in the stunning Frederiksberg Gardens, one of Copenhagen's largest and most beautiful green spaces, the Pacifier Tree is part of a cherished Danish tradition known as "Suttetræet." Young children bring their pacifiers (known as "sutte" in Danish) and hang them on the tree as a rite of passage, symbolizing their growth and transition from babyhood to childhood. Each pacifier tells a unique story of growing up, making the tree a living testament to these tender moments shared by families. 🌟👶

Frederiksberg Gardens itself is a gem, offering picturesque landscapes, serene lakes, and even a view of the Frederiksberg Palace. The gardens are a perfect blend of natural beauty and cultural history, and the Pacifier Tree adds an extra layer of charm and meaning to the experience.

During a recent tree safety survey for a local parish council, we stumbled upon an unexpected find: a Horse Chestnut tree turned pinboard! This majestic tree has been used for years to hold up signs, leaving multiple nails hammered into its bark.

Nails may seem harmless, but they can cause significant damage to trees and affecting their health. Let's be more mindful and preserve our beautiful trees! 🌳

🌲 Even on holiday, our passion for trees doesn't take a break! We couldn't resist visiting the remarkable Fortingall Yew in Scotland. 🌲

Estimated to be between 3,000 and 9,000 years old, the Fortingall Yew is believed to be one of the oldest living things in Europe. Nestled in the quaint village of Fortingall, this ancient yew has witnessed millennia of history, standing as a testament to nature's resilience and longevity.

Hey everyone! Remember that incredible ash tree I stumbled upon in the countryside around Ripon? Well guess what? This incredible tree has just received official recognition from the The Woodland Trust as an ancient tree! 🙌🎉 In fact, it's only 10cm away from being crowned the champion ash tree of Yorkshire, boasting an impressive girth of 6.5m! 🏆🌳 Tree number is 242455 for anyone who wants to have a look at it. The tree is doing really well and showing no signs of ash dieback!

To celebrate this remarkable achievement and the vital importance of preserving our ancient and veteran trees, I urge you all to join me in supporting the Woodland Trust's Ancient Tree Inventory. 🌍🌳 By adding these awe-inspiring natural wonders to the inventory, we can actively contribute to their conservation and ensure their existence for generations to come.

🍁 Sticky sycamores: The honeydew saga! 🌳💧

🌿 Attention, nature lovers and curious minds! Let's unravel the mystery of sycamore trees and the captivating sap drip caused by aphids. Imagine this: stunning sycamore leaves sparkling in the sunlight, accompanied by an intriguing sight—a sticky sap phenomenon. 🍁✨

💦 Sycamore trees host a bustling ecosystem of aphids. These tiny sap-sucking insects dine on the tree's sap, whilst excreting a sugary substance called honeydew 💩" Sticky and persistent, it leaves a mark that captures our attention. 🌳💧

🌍 Recently, we have recieved enquiries regarding trees leaving this sticky substance all over patios and garden furniture and people thinking there is something wrong with the tree and this is not the case. This event happens every year but the persistant lack of rain this year has meant its not been washed away like normal. Dont worry though simple water, dettergent and some elbow grease will clean it up no problem! 🪣🧼

🐜 While sap drip may seem like a sticky situation, fear not! It poses no harm to the tree itself. In fact, it becomes a delectable treat for ants and bees, contributing to the ecosystem's delicate balance. Nature's recycling system in action! 🌿🐝
