One of the latest Rentersā€™ Rights Act announcements introduces a new national landlord registration service.

But what does that actually mean for renters?

The idea is to give tenants more transparency and confidence when choosing where to live.

As the system develops, tenants will be able to see whether a landlord or prospective landlord has registered, helping them feel more confident that the person renting out the property is genuine and following the rules.

It should also give councils better information to identify landlords who aren't meeting their responsibilities.

For good landlords, it's another opportunity to demonstrate the standards they maintain.

For tenants, it's another layer of transparency when renting a home.
