RIP Zoppa | 2012-2026 🤍

The Wildheart team are devastated to announce that our beloved tiger, Zoppa, passed away this afternoon, Thursday, 6th August, at the age of 14.

Zoppa was born on 22nd May 2012. It is thought that she spent her early life in a Spanish circus. At some point in her early years she sustained a leg fracture which left her with a limp in her front left leg - a permanent, lifelong disability.

Over the years, Zoppa's condition has been closely monitored by our animal care team, and we were satisfied that she had adapted well to her disability. This was helped by a tailored care plan including habitat modifications, specific enrichment, pain medication and regular sessions with an expert animal physiotherapist.

However, as she aged, Zoppa's ability to cope with the pain and discomfort caused by her disability had reached a level where we were concerned that she was suffering, so after extensive consultation with our veterinary team, the very difficult decision was made to put her to sleep.

🌘☀️ LOOK UP NEXT WEDNESDAY! A PARTIAL SOLAR ECLIPSE IS COMING TO THE ISLE OF WIGHT ☀️🌘

Next Wednesday 12th August we'll be treated to a spectacular partial solar eclipse, with the Moon gradually passing in front of the Sun during the evening 😍

🕕 First contact: 6:18pm
🌑 Maximum eclipse: 7:14pm
🌅 Ends: 8:08pm

As the eclipse progresses, you may notice:
🌡️ A slight drop in temperature
🌤️ The sky becoming a little darker
🌳 Sharper shadows & unusual lighting
🐦 Birds & wildlife behaving differently

📍The Sun will be low in the west-northwest, so find yourself a spot with a clear view of the horizon

⚠️ IMPORTANT: Never look directly at the Sun without proper certified solar eclipse glasses or suitable viewing equipment, even during a partial eclipse. Regular sunglasses are not safe
