Tribune Shopfitters are proud to contribute to the major restoration of the Commissioner’s House at The Historic Dockyard Chatham, manufacturing and installing bespoke feature joinery and the new bar counter for this remarkable historic building.
Our brief was not to make the new joinery stand out, but to make it feel as though it belonged.
Working alongside The Historic Dockyard’s consultant interior designer, we considered the proportions, detailing, materials and finishes to ensure the finished pieces were both practical and sympathetic to the historic setting.
The bar counter and fitted furniture were manufactured by our craftsmen in the Tribune Joinery Workshop, drawing from inspiration from existing features within the Commissioners House so the new work would sit comfortably alongside the historic interiors.
Following manufacture, the joinery was carefully installed on site by our craftsmen, working alongside the Dockyard’s skilled project and conservation teams.
For generations, the Dockyard’s own joiners and carpenters manufactured furniture, fittings and architectural joinery within its workshop. We are proud that Tribune’s craftsmen have been able to play small part in continuing that tradition.
