Below is an example of a decked area we installed recently. This was tied into an existing, smaller decked area and, I think you'll agree, has made a fantastic area for friends and family to use throughout the year.

As we officially move into Spring I look out of the window as I complete my yearly books in preparation for the taxman. It's a wet and breezy day as we head into Easter and our 1st bank holiday of the year.
Last year turned out to be a rather wet summer, without even a single threat of hosepipe bans here in the green and pleasant lands of Yorkshire. So, I for one, am looking forward to a nice summer this year, with plenty of time spent in the garden with family and friends.
This means we are now starting to think about garden improvements we can make to help us enjoy our gardens just that little bit more.
Below is a little reminder of some of the changes we have helped our customers make to their gardens over the last 3 years. If you need any help realising some of your garden dreams, please contact me and we'll see what we can accomplish together.

Some of you may remember the new patio we completed last year for a regular customer.
The garden to the front, left side of the new patio was a bit of a problem area. It was quite uneven and contained a very large tree stump and a broken concrete path.
I think the slightly tiered extension to the patio nicely addresses all of these issues and is a nice improvement to the overall patio area.

This was probably the hardest job I have undertaken since starting to work for myself but, the transformation and end result are extremely rewarding.
Laying large Porcelain tiles is a little more tricky than laying other patio media but, I think you'll agree, worth the effort.

My 2nd year of working for myself has ended and I've just spent the morning completing my books for the Taxman, what a depressing start to day, lol.
But, Spring is well & truly here and after what seems like a long winter, the Blossoms are out and the flowers are starting to bloom.
It's at this time of year that we're all starting to think about our gardens, hoping for a great summer and plenty of fresh air in our outdoor spaces.
During the past year a lot of you have used me to carry out changes to your homes and gardens and I want to take this opportunity to thank you ALL. It was an enjoyable & interesting year and an absolute pleasure to have met you and worked with you in making these improvements.
Thank you.

This Patio was originally laid about 11 years ago and was starting to show some signs of wear. Some flags had sunk, the edge had collapsed and weeds had become a continuous problem.
The patio was re-built using existing materials from the garden, including an old pathway and some left over sand from a previous job.
The flags were lifted and re-laid on a new fabric and sand base, with the level lifted slightly to meet the rear step more tidily.
The old pathway was cut and shaped to be used as a new edging for the patio which, now includes 2 new planters, 1 at each front corner. Other than the time it took to build them, these were of no extra cost, using existing materials.

Sometimes, jobs just don't go as planned and you have to adapt your plan to resolve what is thrown at you.
This was one of those jobs.
The patio was to be laid level with the rest of the garden, just taking out the slope. However, whilst digging out to level the area, a very large tree root, running diagonally across the garden was found. This couldn't be removed and after a chat with the customer, the plan was changed. 3 Tonnes of filler & 120 Flags later, we had a good sized patio, 10 inches higher than first planned.
To accommodate mobility issues, a ramp was built within the front edge.
An old shed side was trimmed, cleaned up and painted and used to provide the panel at the end of the garden.
The planter was built reusing scaffolding planks and has now been filled, planted and painted to match the end panel.
Rather than put in a full panelled fence down the left side of the patio, a purpose built fence, that follows the top line of the Privet hedge, was installed. I think this provides a nice contrast down that side of the patio and with the addition of the Arbour in the rear corner, the customer is very happy with the transformation to the top of her garden.

I recently got the chance to build a "Wall Easel" for an extremely good artist (and friend) that I have known for a long time.
It is a very simple system, incorporating "French cleating", that allows the artist to use various canvass sizes, at different heights and to have multiple canvasses to hand.
This same system can be used in garages and workshops, giving versatility to where tool/storage boxes are hung and used.
