A big project that Ive been working on over the past year. Expect wild and challenging orienteering- not to be missed.

Experience the natural beauty of Rannoch Forest, close to the picturesque village of Kinloch Rannoch.🌄

Expect map scales of 1:7,500, 1:10,000 (and 1:15,000 for the long) depending on class, with 5m contours.🗺️

Get ready to embrace extensive forest running 🌲🍃

This is Days 2 &3 of Jan Kjellström International Festival of Orienteering 2026 in Scotland. 💫

2025 has been busy year, like most others, with a variety of projects up and down the country - an interesting mix of orienteering event maps, schools, parks, and leisure projects. Thanks for your support.

Project nr. 1009 JK 2025. Both Tankersley and Wharncliffe presented map clarity challenges - how best to show the important details, which rocks to show and which to leave off, and which symbols to use to ensure clarity. One example was that I chose to use the ride symbol rather than intermittant paths on Tankersley as I felt this symbol shows the route of the paths more clearly and as its thinner, is slightly less obvious allowing the, arguably, more important contours to stand out. Hopefully I got the balance right...

Once again Im proud to have sponsored South Yorkshire Orienteers who are doing a great job amongst other things of recruiting new people to orienteering, through their weekly club night. I'm also really pleased to have helped with the launch and ongoing sessions for the recently formed Sheffield Training Group delivering weekly training for aspiring juniors and students in Sheffield.

Project Nr. 1011 Rugeley. This job was to make an ISSprOM map of the town for a national urban league event. On the whole a straightforward map to make but as always with an eye on clartiy.

Project Nr. 1012 Lister Wood. South Yorkshire forests are often plagued with brambles so what gem of an area Lister Wood is. A steep sided valley with wonderful Beech woodland and pockets of old mining works - worth a visit if you get a chance.

Special project. Holiday orienteering. The advantages of such a wealth of freely available data makes it possible to produce good quality* maps of almost anywhere from the comfort of your office.
* suitable for some family holiday orienteering.
This year's examples include Satara Rest Camp in Krugar National Park 🇿🇦 and the villages of Parwich and Winster.

Project Nr.1026 Burley, New Forest. Working in the New Forest, an extensive area of woodland and heathland, is always a join and this project was no exception. I was blessed with spring sunshine and accompanied by a continuous chorus of bird song. From a mapping perspect the Lidar base material was excellent but as the heathland is managed many areas had changed since even the latest aerial photos were taken. This map was produced for the 2025 November Classic orienteering event.
