🌳 SHEFFIELD COUNCIL WANTS TO KNOW WHAT YOU THINK ABOUT OUR GREEN SPACES – LET’S TELL THEM! 🌳

Sheffield City Council has launched its Parks and Countryside Survey 2026, asking residents what they think about the city’s parks, woodlands and green spaces and what should be done to improve and protect them in the future.

At a time when large areas of Sheffield’s Green Belt and green spaces are under threat from development, this is another opportunity to make our voices heard.

💚 If you value the countryside, woodland, wildlife and green spaces around our communities, please take 5 minutes to complete the survey.

When answering, think about the green spaces that matter to you and tell the Council why they are important and why they need protecting for future generations.

With the increase in fires across Sheffield, and fires now happening in and around the S12 postcode, we’re sharing this important advice from South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue.

Please please please respect their requests and follow their guidance. Our firefighters are working incredibly hard in very difficult circumstances to keep people and communities safe.

These fires are causing real devastation to our countryside, wildlife, habitats and people’s livelihoods. Our green spaces are precious, and the damage caused can have consequences for years to come.

Smokers make sure it’s out and pop the end in a butt bin.

Please take extra care, stay safe and help protect our green belt and natural spaces. 🌳🐝🦔

S12 Green Belt Action Group – Meeting with Sheffield City Council

Yesterday, members of the S12 Green Belt Action Group met with Sheffield City Council leaders Fran Belbin and Angela Argenzio and showed them around SS19, explaining our concerns about the proposed development and its wider impact on our community.

We raised the issues we have highlighted previously in our statements, including:

🦅🦊🦡🌲The impact on our green belt, wildlife and ecology
🏫 The proximity to the local school; noise, pollution, H&S of pupils, and concerns around school places
🚗 Traffic, congestion and road safety
⚠️ Safety concerns for residents and children
🩺The pressure on already stretched infrastructure and services
📍 The proximity to the proposed Derbyshire development site
🏘️ The wider issue of S12 receiving significant housing development without the infrastructure needed to support it.
🌳 We raised Jaunty Park, and also why was Green Belt development starting before Scowerdons and the Aerodrome.

We asked tough questions. We made our community heard.

Our message was clear: S12 is taking a large share of new development across the postcode, but the infrastructure and services needed to support that growth are not keeping pace. SS19 is not the right place for development.

We would like to thank Fran Belbin and Angela Argenzio for taking the time to visit the area, listen to our concerns and see the site for themselves.

A special thank you also goes to our local councillor Luke for helping to arrange the visit and for supporting us throughout.

Thank you to Gleadless Methodist church for hiring their space short notice and late on a Saturday.

And finally, thank you to all the S12 Green Belt Action Group members who gave up their Saturday evening to come along, share their concerns and continue standing up for our community. 💚

Our community deserves development that is properly planned, safe and supported by the infrastructure it needs.

🚨 A huge thank you to everyone who has campaigned and made objections to protect Sheffield's Green Belt, your voices are making a real difference! 💚 🌱

The Sheffield Local Plan has NOT been approved. Inspectors have sent it back, ordering more work, more assessments, and another public consultation.

Even better, it's also raised further questions about Jaunty Field, another really positive development and a sign that the concerns raised by local residents are being taken seriously. 🌿

The fight isn't over, but our campaign is making an impact.

📢 Another consultation is coming, giving us all another chance to stand up for our Green Belt.

Once we know the consultation dates and what we can comment on we will let you know.

👉 Please share this post and help spread the word to be poised to submit further objections. Together, we can and are making a difference. 🌳

A huge thank you to everyone on our team who has dedicated countless hours to researching, writing and reviewing this document and to their families for their patience and understanding while so much time has been devoted to this campaign.

We continue to believe that SS19 is the wrong site for development for many reasons, and we remain committed to standing up for our community and protecting our Green Belt.

After a few days’ break, we’re now looking ahead and planning some fundraising events to help support the Alliance’s legal costs, as well as any potential legal costs for our individual sites if needed.

We’d love to hear what events you’d be interested in attending or supporting. Some ideas so far include:

• Band nights
• Kids’ events
• Wine tasting
• Beer festival
• Summer fayre

We just want to say a huge THANK YOU to everyone who submitted objections during the consultation period, and to all of you who’ve supported us throughout this journey from objections, sending in ideas and brownfield sites, fundraising, to showing up at a moments notice for photos in fields, and for sharing post after post, THANK YOU 💚

Thank you to our incredible street team for delivering 5,000 leaflets covering miles and miles (if you got a leaflet it’s one of our team who delivered it), putting up numerous posters, and gathering hundreds of signatures you’ve been phenomenal 👏. To our small but mighty writing and admin team, who’ve worked tirelessly behind the scenes on research, writing, editing video clips, identifying brownfield sites, admin, organising accounts, attending hearings, raising funds, talking to press, holding meeting after meeting, and spreading the word… we couldn’t have done this without you. Thank you to our ever understanding families for losing us to this again for hours on end (messages often began at 6:30am and didn’t finishing until gone 10:00pm).

Our latest objection is now in. We wait, we hope… and if we’re honest, we’re a bit knackered!
