Only 11 mile from Coal House Cottage stands Copley chimney which was built in 1832 as part of the Gaunless Valley Lead Mill. It stands 35 M tall. It was constructed to disperse toxic fumes from the smelting lead ore. It is one of the few remaining remnants of the industrial activity in the area. There is a clear path from the parking area to the chimney.

Mostly along old railway paths and some field paths. It can be muddy so boots advised. Dogs must be kept on a lead due to sheep, horses and cattle in adjacent fields and there being gaps in the fence.

Well worh a visit and if your fit enough to climb the narrow internal staircase the views are stunning.
Built in 1844 to honour John Lambton, the 1st Earl of Durham.
Managed by the National Trust, it's a popular spot for walks, featuring in Sunderland's identity, even appearing on the local football club's badge.
