What to do when you canβt get signal on site?
If youβre under intense tree cover (usually in summer!), how do you determine the position of the total station without satellite signal? The answer involves using pegs.
We set up the total station somewhere we can do a normal resection (further away from the cross-section) and then install at least 2 pegs in sight of where we need to set up. Shooting to the pegs gives them an exact location, meaning that we can now resect off them with the total station where it needs to be. From there, the survey continues as normal.
This type of process is part of what makes river surveying challenging but also fun!
