Good ventilation not only promotes health in humans but also protects and maintains buildings.
To improve indoor air quality generally and reduce Covid risks to/from visitors - make sure you can open windows, when weather conditions allow, to increase indoor airflow. Do not open them if doing so poses a safety or health risk (e.g., risk of falling, triggering a respiratory reaction). Fit childproof stays, adults must still be able to open Means of Escape windows in case of fire.
Even a slightly open window can introduce beneficial outdoor air. If your window frames have trickle vents, ensure at least one in each room is open. Check any through-the-wall vents are clear, including those to underfloor voids.
From 15th June 2022 new and most replacement windows will be required by law to have trickle vents unless the room has a dedicated mechanical ventilation system fitted.
