Following the incident below, Kent Fire and Rescue Service are reminding people to:
✅ Always use the original charger that came with your device but if you must use an alternative charger, make sure it comes from a reputable supplier.
✅ Never leave items that are charging unsupervised, or overnight.
✅ Always charge items in a well-ventilated area and left uncovered to prevent the risk of overheating.
✅ Disconnect devices from the charger as soon as they are charged.
And make sure to have enough working smoke alarms in your home and to test them regularly!
A bedroom fire in is believed to have started accidentally after a battery pack overheated and caught alight. The fire spread to bedding which had been put on top of the device while it was left on charge.
Two fire engines were sent to the house in where crews extinguished the fire. Thankfully, the residents were alerted by a working smoke alarm and could escape safely.
