A great new addition to the private collection of one of our directors.

The Harcourt Badge, named after Lt.Col. Edward Vernon Harcourt, was a prize awarded at the National Artillery Association gunnery competitions held on The Old Ranges at Shoeburyness over 130 years ago.

Harcourt had commanded the 1st Brigade of the Cinque Ports Artillery Volunteers, who had won the top honour of The Queens Prize at the NAA competitions at Shoeburyness in 1866.

The badge features the prominent peacock of the Harcourt family crest which can trace its origins back to Norman nobility.

A great piece of local history.

Enjoy an art exhibition this weekend with the opportunity to purchase original pieces by talented local artists.

A great big thank you again to Shoeburyness and South Essex Branch, Royal Artillery Association and Southend Coastguard Rescue Team for another brilliant effort tidying up our garden area.

With our recent planting, and sterling efforts by David, Janine, and Mahnaz caring for our trees and shrubs, and Paul and his team trimming back the overhanging trees, the place is really starting to bloom.

We even have a small veggie garden underway.

We are so grateful to all of you 👏👏👏

Wow, what a day!

Thank you to everyone who joined us on Saturday at The Cart and Wagon Shed for our Victory Day Celebration. Our thanks also go to Southend-on-Sea City Council for supporting our community events programme.

We began the morning with a fascinating illustrated talk by Brian Sandford – Our Greatest Generation.

Visitors explored an impressive WWII Militaria display from the private collection of David Jeeves, and learned more about the incredible work of the Royal British Legion from Lana Balmer.

With glorious weather, many stopped to admire the field gun display and chat with veterans from the Shoeburyness and South Essex Branch Royal Artillery Association Est. 1929.

Families got creative decorating flags and designing medals at our children’s craft table, and many enjoyed our free, self-guided Family Heritage Trail.

In the afternoon, over a hundred guests joined us for our special Victory Day Concerts, featuring the wonderful talents of Heather Simmons, Debbie Bines & Ted Beament.

We closed the day with a moving ceremony of remembrance, led by our Chair, with Chris Hodgkins playing the Last Post.

Thank you for helping us honour, remember, and celebrate together.

Heather Simmons, accompanied by Ted Beament, will be performing a selection of songs that were popular during World War II at our very special Victory Day Concerts this Saturday 2nd May.

Heather has sung at some of the finest venues in the world including Ronnie Scott's, The Royal Festival Hall, The Vanguard in New York and Preservation Hall in New Orleans. This year she was chosen to headline the Mayor of Southend-on-Sea's annual charity show. Now she will be performing at The Cart and Wagon Shed. Her album "I'm Old Fashioned" has been played on national radio and she continues to sing with many wonderful jazz stars.

Ted Beament is an acclaimed jazz pianist. He was for many years a member of the Humphrey Lyttleton Band and now leads his own quartet.

We are delighted to be hosting two short concerts. Entry is completely free but booking is essential. To reserve your tickets, please click here:

Yesterday our chair hosted a visit from South Eastern Vintage & Classic Car Association for their National Drive It Day event.

About 30 beautiful cars turned out in glorious sunshine for a tour of the project, and hospitality from our wonderful team at Serendipity Cafe.

One of the cars brought back some memories for our chair, a stunning Morris Traveller 1100, evoking memories of the long drive down to Devon on the A30 during the 1970’s to visit his family in Plymouth for the summer holidays ❤️

A lovely bunch, great to meet you all, and hopefully we will see you all again soon.

Our grateful thanks to Paul from the club for all of the organisation at his end 👏👏👏
