The skies are still blue but the shadows are getting longer, as the sun's maximum altitude above the southern horizon dips to 35.7°. In the depths of a Stirlingshire winter it will only reach a maximum of 10.4°.

Before too long, it will be a time to coorie up, toast marshmallows in the logburner and drink hot chocolate. Stirling Book Nook, have you got any recommendations for a good book to curl up with?

Today felt much more autumnal.
A slight chill in the air and ripening apples in the orchard next to Hare Hut herald the season of mists and mellow fruitfulness.

Alongside the Hare Hut, we have an orchard and polytunnel. We planted the orchard with Scottish heritage apples (including 'Stirling Castle' , 'Bloody Ploughman' and 'Cambusnethan Pippin').

The polytunnel is a work in progress!
Excited to get my new seeds from Seeds of Scotland
These seeds are grown, harvested, processed and packed by hand on small, independent organic and agro-ecological farms across Scotland.

'Coolcations' are the new vacation. Sick of heatwaves, travellers are looking for cooler climates that are refreshing and where they feel more energised. Scotland is the perfect destination. Come to Hare Hut and enjoy the greenery and peace, at the gateway to the Highlands.

Wishing I had a better camera phone!
We love seeing the hares that live in the fields around Hare Hut. Thankfully these ones have survived the farmer's combine harvester: always a worry at this time of year.

Reflecting on all the hard work in the last year.

What was just a rough bit of field behind our house has now become a lovely little retreat for guests to enjoy.

Due to a cancellation, Hare Hut is now available on the weekend of 18-20 September. If anyone is a fan of crime fiction, Stirling is the place to be that weekend with the Bloody Scotland International Crime Writing Festival!

As the shadows grow longer, at the end of a beautiful day, we are so thankful not to be suffering the same fate as those to the south of us.

We may have more rain in Scotland but we have lush, green grass that more than makes up for the inconvenience of a raincoat!
