Today Boris Johnson announced an announcement that was announced before, In regard to the ability of Housing Association tenants to buy properties from their current landlords.

Depending on your view, this could be seen as a good or bad move and is to some extent an extension of the right to buy that was introduced by Margaret Thatcher in the late 1980s.

whether you agree or not the whole point of social housing was as a temporary stop, and was not supposed to be a permanent solution ie home for life.

Its aim was to help those looking for a Housing solution and to support those that can eventually afford to move on, thus freeing up housing for those that need it most.

Moreover, the funds can then be reinvested into Building more properties for those that need it, that is in theory anyway, I do not question the need, just if the theory and application actually work's and I make no judgement of any social groups.

The issue was in 1989 or around that date the councils had 3/4 million properties that needed work and so they had the dilemma of spending £19 billion pounds of taxpayers fund on the repairs or to sell the stock to the tenants, that way they paid for the works as they owned the house, you see how could they justify spending that money to update the using stock for free whist the workers who paid the taxes could not afford to refurbish their own properties?
