Here at GL&CO, we are always happy to help the community and charitable causes wherever possible, the hardest part is choosing which of the great causes to support, as we are presented with many.
Martin Rutt is one of our previous and current clients and he, along with his wife Maggie, are incredibly charitable people who undertake a variety of good causes from housing rescue dogs, to offering safe haven to displaced Ukrainian families by welcoming them into their home. Those good deeds aside, Martin recently, in a remarkable act of kindness, decided to donate one of his kidneys in order to save a life complete stranger; in Martin’s own words:
“If the exhaustive testing by the hospital team showed that my health was good enough - for me generally and my two kidneys in particular - why wouldn’t I give the chance of a healthy life to someone who would otherwise die a miserable and painful death? It may not be normal, but maybe it should be, even if it’s a stranger?”
In order to raise money for Kidney Research, his latest challenge is to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, a feat even more remarkable considering Martin will be approaching his mid-seventies by the time of the climb.
