We recently carried out a shop and flat rewiring project for a much-loved local business, and this one gave us a fascinating glimpse into the history of the building.

As the old installation was removed, we uncovered several generations of wiring, from the days when the property was lit by gas, through lead-sheathed rubber and early rubber cabling, right up to more familiar PVC wiring.

It is a brilliant reminder of just how much electrical installation has changed over the years, particularly in older properties where different eras of wiring can often sit side by side.

Our job is always to respect the character and history of a building while making sure the installation is safe, compliant and fit for modern use.

A really interesting project for a cherished local business, and a lovely example of old meeting new.

Supporting Our Agricultural Clients This Autumn and Winter

As the days get shorter and the nights draw in, reliable CCTV, security and lighting become increasingly important across farms, yards and agricultural buildings.

We’re pleased to continue supporting our agricultural clients with:

Over recent years, we’ve completed a number of tailored CCTV installations for our agricultural clients, designed not only with security in mind, but to provide practical solutions for monitoring livestock.

These systems can be particularly valuable when animals are housed indoors over the winter, and during busy lambing and calving periods, allowing livestock and buildings to be monitored easily and effectively.

From livestock monitoring to improving visibility around buildings, yards, machinery and access points, we can tailor systems around the individual farm and the way it operates.

A busy summer at Somerset Electrical & Property Services

It’s been a varied summer for the team, working across industrial, commercial and domestic electrical projects throughout Somerset and beyond.

From consumer unit upgrades, electrical inspection and testing, fault finding and everyday electrical work, through to CCTV and security installations, EV charging, solar PV and battery storage, there’s been plenty of variety.

Our commercial work continues to be particularly diverse, supporting businesses with ongoing electrical requirements, compliance and testing, facility upgrades and alterations, as well as larger projects including renovations, extensions and the electrical installation required for new areas of commercial premises.

On the domestic side, the range can be just as broad, from installing an oven or additional sockets through to rewires, renovations, new electrical installations and renewable technologies.

Alongside the practical work, we continue to support electrical safety, certification, compliance and landlord responsibilities, helping ensure installations are not only working properly, but meeting the standards expected of them.

It’s a good reflection of what Somerset Electrical & Property Services has always been about, qualified, certified engineers providing practical electrical expertise across projects of every size.

We’re always pleased to support organisations that work so hard to preserve the history and heritage of our local community.

It was a pleasure to work with the West Somerset Railway Heritage Trust, designing and installing a CCTV system tailored to their specific requirements. The new security solution provides secure remote access as well as office-based viewing, helping to protect their buildings and assets.

Every installation is different, and we always work with our customers to deliver a solution that meets their individual requirements.

Ten years ago, Steve Eastick established Somerset Electrical and Property Services with his partner Kathryn. A decade later, it’s fantastic to see a business that continues to grow through hard work, integrity and an unwavering commitment to quality.

Steve brings an incredible depth of experience to everything he does, from electronics and telecommunications to electrical engineering, alongside senior leadership roles within large organisations, including Estates Director. This breadth of knowledge has helped build a business that now delivers an impressive range of services across the South West, from domestic, commercial and industrial electrical work to security solutions, solar energy installations, large commercial projects and even the specialist servicing of kilns.

Just as importantly, Somerset Electrical and Property Services has invested in people, supporting apprentices and helping develop the next generation of skilled electricians, while continuing to serve customers throughout the region, and importantly local communities around Wiveliscombe and the 10 Parishes.

A milestone like this is never achieved alone. A heartfelt thank you to every customer, colleague, supplier, contractor, apprentice, friend and family member who has supported Steve and Somerset Electrical and Property Services over the past ten years. Your trust, loyalty and encouragement have all played a part in this journey and in the continued success of the business.

We’re delighted to have supported our local community in Langley Marsh, Wiveliscombe, with the installation of a new defibrillator.

A real pleasure to spend time with such a lovely pottery community in Frome today.

We serviced two Cromartie 3-phase front-load kilns and completed a full replacement of all heating elements to help keep everything running safely, efficiently, and ready for many more hours of creativity.
