Today, I had the privilege of attending the service of a recent client who very sadly lost his battle with cancer.

During the service, as memories of his life were being shared, there was a particular focus on the family home — a home of more than 40 years, which we had recently been entrusted to sell.

It was spoken about with such warmth. The years lived there. The family moments. The ordinary days that became treasured memories. The laughter, the milestones, the love and the life that had filled those walls.

It made me pause and reflect on what an incredible privilege it is to be asked to handle the sale of a home that has meant so much to someone.

Because when we are invited into people’s homes, especially at significant moments in their lives, we are not just dealing with bricks, mortar, land and market value. We are dealing with memories, emotions, history and often a lifetime of love.

For that family, it was not simply a property. It was their home. Their story. Their safe place. Their chapter of more than four decades.

To have played even a small part in helping them move through that next stage is something I feel very humbled by.

More than just an estate agent?

I think so.
