What a sad article. With a housing crisis and a country in need of funds, second homes should be subject to a taxation regime which reflects those things. Airbnb could be looked at too. These are things which may be nice to have, but society’s need for homes is greater.

Another sad story about the costs of our dysfunctional housing market and the effect it has on people in our society. The market led approach hasn’t worked. Community led housing, under local control must be part of the answer. Communities know what they need, and in Tenterden it is not 4 and 5 bed executive homes.

People who rent are finding it hardest to cover housing costs and may be spending less on food.
