We have recently finished designing and successfully obtaining planning permission for a simple, modern ground floor extension to a 1970’s 3 bed semi-detached house in the Reading area. The brief from the client was to introduce a new garden room / family room at the rear of the house. We only needed to add approximately 13 sqm of new space to create a beautiful, light-filled garden room for the whole family to use.

Cost was a factor, so we suggested leaving the kitchen and dining area untouched, so disruption to the existing house was kept to a minimum. A glazed link via the dining area would then connect the garden room to the existing house.

A dual-aspect wall of glazing was suggested to maximise views out to the garden. Using folding doors, the garden room would have unobstructed access to the garden and outside dining area.

The roof was designed to partly extend over the folding doors, to provide cover; and to minimise glare and solar heat gain during the hot summer months.

Finally, we suggested an area to the side of the extension dedicated for outside seating and socialising…or an outside kitchen if the BBQ was a frequent weekend event.

Set on the edge of a beautiful woodlands, this lovely house was screaming for a face-lift. The existing snug, study, utility room and bedrooms were all enlarged to create a spacious dwelling that now fits in perfectly with its surroundings.
The old facing brickwork has been largely finished with render, working in perfect harmony with the new timber cladding, to give the house a fresh and modern envelope.

We took on the responsibility to produce the Building Regs information and construction drawings for a pair of new semi-detached dwellings in the Donnington area of Newbury.
Our excellent relationship with the developer was key to producing a comprehensive set of technical drawings that met the standards set by the current Building Regs, whilst meeting the requirements of the contractors preferred materials.

This beautiful Grade II listed building in Hampshire had a kitchen that was no longer meeting our clients needs. Both the kitchen and the rear gardens felt isolated from the rest of the house. Our brief was to change the dynamic of the East wing by refurbishing the existing kitchen and adding a new, combined family / dining room to the rear of the plot, thus creating a much-needed social element to our client's life-style. Being a Grade II listed building, much care was taken to ensure that the extension complemented the existing house.

A late Victorian existing building was refurbished and sub-divided to create 5 luxury apartments within a historic shell. Two contemporary three-storey blocks were constructed within the surrounding grounds to house a further 9 apartments. The award-winning modern design was respectful to the existing building, but never tried to emulate the traditional structure. The resulting combination was vibrant and appealing, with the majority of the apartments selling off plan before the building works were fully completed.

The existing lean-to element of our clients' house contained a small garage and a utility room that was not meeting their requirements. Consequently, we replaced the existing structure with a larger footprint that included a shower room, utility room, laundry room and a feature roof structure that extended into the rear garden to create a covered patio.

The initial concept was to expand and refurbish the original greenhouse dating back to the late part of the 19th Century. In the end, only the listed wall running through the spine of the building was retained. The greenhouse was sensitively taken apart and elements were incorporated in the new construction. The end product was a 200 sq m new dwelling, set within a mature garden, incorporating full height triple glazed units in the south-facing elevation, a ground source heat-pump, an air recycling system and photovoltaic panels on the south face of the roof.
