Shoot day today 📸 📹

We are getting some content together to showcase a little bit more about who Haldons are, and the projects we do. Thanks to our clients who have given their time to us today, Ben Hunt at Park Life Heavitree and to John and Paul at St Matthias Church Torquay in Babbacombe.

A huge thank you also to Connie Meek Media, who you can see below, for getting some amazing shots and footage. We look forward to sharing with you what we've captured.

An absolutely fantastic time had by all at Rowcroft Hospice's Male Trail this weekend 🎉

From our team, we had Simon, Mark, Sean, Daniel and Lloyd who all walked eight miles along the beautiful South West Coastline to celebrate 40 years of Rowcroft, finishing up at the Rugby Club to watch the match with everyone that participated 🍻

Here's a shot with the Haldons team alongside Alliance Build Company just above the beautiful Meadfoot Beach, along with a group from Classic Builders Plymouth.

We were delighted to finish up this project with Gloucester City Council at The Music Works. Haldons were bought in to provide support as Quantity Surveyors, Principal Designers and Contract Administrator for the installation of a new lift into the existing building to allow DDA access to the first and second floors. Particularly to the first floor where a charity and music workshop were taking place, who have a lot of clients with various complex needs.

There were considerable constraints to overcome as a result of trying to fit something into an existing building to ensure that the openings were in the right place, and also to comply fire regulations. However, these were overcome with a great result.

This week's and although we aren't a company that provides educational services, we would like to provide a bit of inspiration from one of our team. Dan, he is one of our newer and younger members of the team, and here is how he got to being one of the Building Surveyors here at Haldons:

"So Where do I start. My career/study in construction start back in 2007 when I enrolled on a Foundation Degree in Built and Natural Environment at University of the West of England. I really enjoyed the Architectural module on the Foundation Degree, so I then enrolled on the Architecture and Environmental Engineering Degree Course at The University of The West of England. Having completed three of the four-year architectural course I decided to take a year out before completing my final year. In that year I found a job with Atkins, working out of their Oxford office as an architectural assistant/assistant building surveyor. I fell in love with building surveying and the fact as a building surveyor you have a lot more fingers in a lot more pies and get involved and exposed to a much wider range of elements within the construction industry. I then cancelled my final year of architecture and instead enrolled on a part-time Building Surveying Degree again at the University of the West of England where I graduated back in 2018. I am currently enrolled on the RICS APC programme and look to sit my APC in November this year.

I love the varied workload that Building Surveyors get to be involved in. Over the years I have worked on so many different types of projects: Undertaking house stock condition surveys all over the country, loft conversions, planning permissions, utility surveys and plotting, building regulations, design work, 3D modelling, measured surveys, party wall and dilapidations, just to name a few. The next step in my career is to become chartered and continue my development and increase my building surveying knowledge here at Haldons."

So for all of those thinking about starting training, or making a change, here is some inspiration - careers are not linear, but are a winding road of opportunities and changes.

More and more we're being asked and are carrying out drone surveys of projects we are working on. Not only are these incredibly useful but are great to view and see areas from a birds eye view 🦅

Here is the beautiful Upton Vale Baptist Church just down the road from our Torquay office.

The refurbishment works on The Grange project at Exmouth Community College has finally completed. 🏁

Practical Completion is now done, as well as a few minor snags now completed as well. The staff at Exmouth Community College will be moving back into their newly refurbished offices within the iconic Grange building located in the middle of the Gipsy Lane site.

It has been a fantastic project to be a part of with many variations and additions to the contract which has kept Dan and the other team members on their toes throughout 🙌

Mark and Maria went along to Rowcroft Hospice's Public Engagement Event this morning. It was really exciting to see their bigs plans for the future of the site, and the extended care they are looking to provide to the community.

We look forward to continuing to support Rowcroft and watch these wonderful plans come to fruition!

🙌 New Project - Crapstone, Dartmoor National Park 🙌

This is a brand new project for us, but we are again working alongside Classic Builders, who have been working on the open market properties near Yelverton for some months. Now the contract negotiations are complete the construction on the eight new dwellings for Willowtree Housing Partnership (WTP) have now commenced (as seen in the pictures below!)

The project is in Dartmoor National Park - so there are some constraints that need careful consideration and WTP are very keen to future-proof the plots. So additional specification items have been negotiated including additional power and data provisions, better arrangements for gardens (including water butts, outside taps and storage) and Electrical Vehicle charging provisions will be added.

The scheme should be delivered around the beginning of 2023.

Haldons have begun design work to provide a new Ophthalmology Diagnostic Hub located in the old Renal Dialysis building located at South Molton Hospital.

Our plan is to completely refurbish the existing building into a purposely designed Ophthalmology diagnostic hub that uses "lanes" to reduce patient waiting time and increase efficiency.

Construction will be starting in Spring with plans to finish on site in Autumn of this year.

The last but not the least of our team intros is Bonnie the pooch and here's a little bit about her too!

📚 What you love about your job? I love to check that no food has been thrown into the waste paper bins....if there is any - I am sure to find in and dispose of it in line with our recycling policy (or more likely, just eat it)

🙏 Your favourite thing to do at the weekend? I love to go for long walks on the beach or the moors. At the weekend I do like a nice long lie in also.

🏝️ Dream Holiday? Chilling at home in the garden is all I need, when the sun is shining and my mum and dad are home - spending the day lounging on the lawn is hard to beat!

🌊 One thing you love the most about the South West? I love the beaches too - I am to sacred to go swimming in the sea, but I love to have a good bark at it and roll in any of the stinky mess that I can find.

We've loved introducing you to our team, and will continue to share a bit more about us all personally!

It's official we are SurveyorsRUs 🚶✊ for Rowcroft Hospice Mail Trail in March!

We couldn't pass up the chance to ramble across the beautiful coastline of the South West, especially to raise money for such a fantastic local charity. This eight mile walk on the 12th March is a celebratory day to mark 40 years of Rowcroft, where all the walkers finish up at Torquay Rugby Club with a beer and a pasty for the Six Nations.

But we need to walk the eight miles first! So please consider sponsoring our team of surveyors, but ultimately supporting this incredible hospice that support those at end of life care across South Devon. Click the link to donate to the Haldons team 'SurveyorsRUs' 👏

We are proud to be walking the Male Trail!

Kudos to WBW, BIG ANT group - recruitment solutions and Bays Brewery as sponsors for the walk.
