Right on Uckfield's doorstep, West Park and Lake Wood make for one of the easiest local escapes around. Start at West Park Local Nature Reserve, home to grassland, woodland and even a population of dormice, then cross into Lake Wood next door.

Lake Wood's the real showstopper here 🪨 Carved sandstone outcrops, a tunnel cut straight through the rock, and steps down to an old boathouse cave all sit alongside a quiet lake where kingfishers and herons are regularly spotted.
