Was watering my polycrub the other night and came across this tiny droplet of water trapped inside a nasturtium leaf. There was a tiny grass seed trapped inside the water droplet. The nasturtium leaf has water repellent properties. (I have no idea why I was rubbish at science at school). Here on the Isle of Lewis we have not experienced the heatwave and drought that the rest of the UK has. We’ve had plenty of rain and moisture in the air. My thoughts as I was rolling this droplet of water around a nasturtium leaf were how precious water is and how privileged we are here to have plenty of it to grow our veg.

Really enjoyed the opening of photographer Paul Duke’s Scottish Trilogy exhibition at last week. It’s a significant photographic collection and wonderful to spend time with photographs made slowly in this fast paced world.

Thanks to .design and Finlay for the music at the opening. Especially the tune Mangersta Beach - a wonderful composition by Aidan O Rourke. It’s my favourite fiddle tune of all time and not just because I live next to the beach and have watched my son play it since he was a wee boy.

Also great to see another brilliant photographer Deljeem Rai chatting to Paul at the opening. Deljeem’s exhibition Cearns is currently on show at in Stornoway - a must see.

Big congratulations to William and his wife Erin on their first opening as curators and on the birth of their baby boy.

Had a lovely walk home along the road from the Mangersta Shieling Open Day yesterday. This is one of my favourite rock faces on the Isle of Lewis. Any explanation of the rock types on the cliff are very welcome as I’m not a geologist. I just like rocks 😀.
