Thanks to everyone who has let me know my website is down! It appears the hosting company have gone into administration and failed to renew my domain name. New website is almost ready and should be up and running in the next couple of days.

Well it’s ages since I posted so here goes: I am approaching my allotted three score years and ten with frightening speed, so am cutting back on work commitments with a view to retirement, having clocked up 47 years surveying on the Island so far. Having had this in mind for several years I have been sharing my workload with a far younger and more energetic consultant surveyor- Andy Tyrrell - who has now qualified as an Associate of the RICS and has been working under the supervision of both myself and another experienced surveyor for some years. Having spent many years building what I hope is a good local reputation, rest assured that I would not entrust this hard earned reputation to Andy if I had any doubts as to his ability and integrity . Whilst I shall continue doing some work for a year or so yet, Andy will be taking on an increasing share of the work load and I can relax a little more in the knowledge that he shares my commitment to providing a great level of service at a fair price.

Very aware of not having posted for a long time 😳.

Business has been very busy throughout lockdown with demand for property on the Island having gone through the roof, and prices doing the same!

Just slowing to some degree now giving us a little breathing space and time to catch up with other things- hence this update . As I approach my 68th birthday and 45th year in business , I am handing over more responsibility to my colleague Andy Tyrrell, although I shall continue to carry out some surveys myself and to supervise Andys work.

Well having survived semi retirement, and with the property market opening up, I am here, refreshed, and ready, willing and able to carry out your surveying needs!

Well in these strangest of times the property market has obviously shut down, so little or no work for surveyors! I am able to carry out inspection of empty property with proper safety precautions, but these are few and far between. Unfortunately my business is such that I do not qualify for any of the government support schemes, so it is a case of batten down the hatches, follow government advice, and hope that things can get back to something like normal before too long. In the meantime I am catching up with all those jobs around the house and garden that have been neglected because I have been too busy !

Just realized with a degree of horror, that it is almost Christmas and the end of another year - my 45th year surveying on the Isle of Wight! For the first time in 20 odd years I shall be closed from the 20th December until the 2nd January for what I think is a well earned break and maybe a beer or two. Merry Christmas to all clients old and new, and here's to a prosperous and happy new year.😁

Just received an email from Mr PT " Thank you for the house survey you carried out for us. It's very clear and easy to understand, and thank you for doing this so quickly, and at such a reasonable fee." Nice to get this sort of feedback πŸ˜€πŸ˜€

Facebook keeps reminding me that I have posted for ages, so here goes! Having had a quiet start to the year, things are now very busy, so very muck back to the norm. No apparent drop off in work due to the Brexit fiasco - despite the ongoing uncertainty, houses still seem to be selling, at least on the Island. Having said that, I would hate to have to try and get a foot on the housing ladder these days, as most of the property that would traditionally have been within the first time buyers range, now seems to sell for investment. Despite the fact that we appear set to leave Europe soon, it seems that we shall end up like most of the rest of Europe, where renting property rather than property ownership is the norm for many people. Whilst some people say that this gives greater flexibility in the housing market, and makes it easier to move around on a regular basis, I am from a generation where owning your own property - albeit with a mortgage - gives you a far greater degree of security. I certainly wouldn't be wanting to move house every 6 months or so! Once in 30 years was enough to put me off moving for the rest of my life! Good job many people don't move as infrequently as I do, as I would be out of a job!

It's hard to ignore Brexit right now and unfortunately the housing market has fallen victim to it.

New figures have shown the detrimental impact of deliberations on home buyers.

Take a look at my recent blog below. For more details about the housing market, please do not hesitate to get in contact 01983 731198.

Brexit will have a large impact on the 2019 property market in the UK. For more, get in contact with Chris Ledger Chartered Surveyor on 01983 731 198.
