Did you know Wallingford Castle Meadows is home to the remains of one of the greatest medieval castles in England? 🏰 Built on the orders of William the Conqueror in 1067, it dominated the Thames Valley for centuries — surviving two civil wars and several royal intrigues. That was until Oliver Cromwell ordered its demolition in 1652 after it was used as a Royalist stronghold! Today it’s a stunning free green space right on our doorstep and a Green Flag award winner for over 15 consecutive years 🌿
