Watched a FB post today from mentor and top man . He spoke about positive procrastination which is a great call out. Modern Hussle culture teaches us that it’s all about putting in the work. But real success comes from not just doing but doing the right things. I believe we all know this deep down but I’m sure many of us are guilty of a little positive procrastination from time to time. Thanks for the reminder Dan, keep a check on yourself peeps.

Back in 2020, changes to permitted development rights included an amendment for the provision of adequate natural lighting in habitable rooms.

Quite right too! As responsible developers, Pompli believes you should never create accommodation that you wouldn’t be happy to live in yourself. Ensuring we get enough of this vital resource has a big impact on our physical and psychological well-being.

It’s a key consideration when assessing the viability of repurposing a commercial building. Bringing natural light into a room without windows can be a challenge, but there are creative solutions including light tubes, solatubes, and light shelves.

Yet, nothing compares to the real thing. You also need to remember that these solutions increase costs while adding complexities to the build, so they should really only be a last resort.

Far better that you consider the lighting at the very beginning of a project and select a building that already has the right architecture to allow for plenty of vitamin D-boosting rays.

Make sure it’s at the top of your checklist when viewing potential conversions ✅

Pendulum

I recently heard Rich Roll speak at an event I attended. He was asked his opinion on work life balance in the context of how to fit everything in. Work, family, health, wellbeing, projects, hobbies & loves… He said trying to create a daily work life balance is impossible, you’re just setting yourself up to fail. He uses what he calls the pendulum approach.

Decide your key areas that are most important and then make sure you allocate appropriate time to each over a period. This means you might go all out on a business project for a week, but you should then make sure you allocate focused time with the family. Over a week or even a month this can seem unbalanced but when you view it from the perspective of a total year it looks quite different.

Define what’s important “your buckets” and then ensure they all get adequate pendulum time.

I really like this approach and thought it’s a great way to frame something that we all struggle with.
