Before & After – Narrow Loft Clearance & New Insulation 🏠

A great before and after transformation from a recent loft clearance!

Following a rat infestation, which was successfully resolved by our parent business, Joe Day , Joe Day Loft Control was brought in to restore this particularly narrow and restricted loft space.

The before photos show the condition we initially found the loft in, with contaminated insulation, stored belongings and debris requiring removal.

We carried out:

✅ Removal and disposal of contaminated loft insulation and belongings
✅ Thorough vacuuming to remove remaining debris
✅ Cleansing of the loft space
✅ Installation of brand-new loft insulation to a minimum depth of 300mm throughout

The after photos show the finished result — a completely cleared, cleansed and freshly insulated loft, despite the challenging restricted access.

Well… that wasn’t quite the start to the day we had planned! 😅🛞

Nothing like jumping in the van, ready for a productive day, only to be greeted by a flat tyre! Thankfully, after a quick pit stop, our hard-working colleague Ant was back on the road and heading to Leamington Spa. 💪

Today’s job was to remove contaminated loft insulation above a kitchen, ensuring the electrician can carry out their work safely without the risks associated with contaminated insulation or loft debris.

We’ll be back next week to install fresh insulation to current recommended standards and, if all goes to plan, add some raised loft boarding to create a clean, safe and practical storage space. 👌

Another loft transformed in Rugby! 🏡

We recently extended the existing raised loft boarding in this partially converted loft, installing an additional 15m² of raised loft boarding to create even more safe, accessible storage space.

With an extremely narrow and steep staircase, getting full-size boards into the loft wasn’t possible, so we used shorter loft boards to complete the installation without compromising on strength or finish.

Another challenging loft insulation project completed in Solihull. 👷‍♂️🏠

This video showcases the removal and disposal of heavily contaminated loft insulation from a converted bungalow in Solihull. Years of accumulated dust, rodent droppings, debris and deteriorating glass wool insulation had left the loft in need of a complete refresh.

To help control dust and improve working conditions, we put together a makeshift extraction system. There’s definitely room for improvement, but it proved extremely effective at capturing airborne dust and removing loose insulation fibres throughout the clearance process.

Once the contaminated insulation had been removed, we carefully topped up the awkward eaves areas with a minimum depth of 270mm mineral wool insulation, helping to improve the property’s thermal performance and energy efficiency.

This was far from a straightforward installation. The converted bungalow presented numerous challenges, including varying joist heights, irregular joist lengths and several unexpected ceiling drops that required careful planning to achieve consistent insulation coverage throughout the loft space.

It’s projects like these that highlight the importance of experience, attention to detail and finding practical solutions to difficult access areas.

Another heavily contaminated loft space cleared out in Henley in Arden following what appears to be a 10+ year rat infestation affecting this bungalow.

Years of rodent activity had left the insulation heavily contaminated with droppings, urine and nesting debris throughout the loft space — making it completely unsuitable to remain in place during the upcoming renovation works.

Following inspection, we also checked the neighbouring bungalow and unfortunately found very similar conditions. Contact has now been made with the neighbour and a quotation has been provided for full clearance and re-insulation works there too.

For this property, the client is carrying out a full renovation and the ceilings are being removed tomorrow, so the priority was to safely clear the loft and reduce contamination risks before works begin.

The loft space and exposed areas have now been thoroughly treated with a professional biocide application to help make the environment safer to work within during renovation.

The source of the rat ingress has also been identified, with drainage repairs now underway to stop the issue returning.

Once the renovation is complete, we’ll be returning to fully re-insulate the loft space back to modern standards.

Before ➡️ After | Loft Insulation Overhaul – Coventry

Another loft put right after a poor previous job.

We were called out to a property in Coventry where the existing glass wool insulation had been badly laid and contaminated following a previous low-level insecticide treatment.

❌ Insulation piled up with no structure

Across 70SQM, we carried out a full removal and disposal of the failed insulation.
