There have been many posts on royal visits to Weymouth but here is one that you may not have heard of before. This one is a lot earlier than others you may be thinking of and took place 14 April 1471. On that day Margaret of Anjou, wife of Henry VI, landed in Weymouth having returned from France. This was the time of the Wars of the Roses and the battles for supremacy between Lancastrian Henry VI and Yorkist Edward IV. Margaretโs return to England was delayed by bad weather and her late arrival may have helped lead to the end of the Lancastrian ambitions. The Lancastrians were defeated and Henry VI was sent to the Tower of London where he died on the night of 21 May 1471.Margaret was also put into custody, but in 1475 Louis XI of France paid a ransom so that she could return to France. If you want to know any more about her then this is a good article - [Margaret of Anjou](https://www.warsoftheroses.com/people/margaret-of-anjou/)
