Sad news from Barnhill House, where Sandy, my gelding Shetland Pony had to be put to sleep; he had been losing weight over the summer, but treated with steroids, seemed to be recovering.
However, on Saturday he went off his food and was then found collapsed on the floor of his stable, unable to move his front legs. It was the right decision to end his suffering particularly at the harshest time of the year with snow thick on the ground.
Granny brought Sandy to the field at Barnhill House back in 2009, aged 2, where he lived an idyllic existence, initially with Poppy and then with Lexi with whom he was bonded.
Sandy was famously captured on film flying, as you can see below.
He was a lovely fellow, and I found sitting with both of them in the field during balmy summer evenings very therapeutic after the difficult events of 2017.
He was a good listener, and will be much missed!
