A striking new bar is preparing to open its doors in Whitby, bringing a mix of Gothic style, candlelight, craft beer and rock ’n’ roll to one of the town’s most historic streets.

House of Memento Mori, at 6 Grape Lane, will officially open on Friday 25 September after more than two years of work behind the scenes.

The new venue promises a dramatic Gothic and Georgian-inspired interior, with customers able to choose from a wide selection of ales, craft beers, real ciders and more.

Music will also be a big part of the atmosphere, with the owners promising candlelit surroundings accompanied by the sounds of rock ’n’ roll.

House of Memento Mori is being created by the team behind Valhalla in York, although the owners have made clear that the Whitby venue has always been designed as its own concept, with a completely separate name and identity.

The bar occupies a Grade II-listed former ironmongers on Grape Lane, right in the heart of Whitby’s old town.

After a long transformation, the finishing touches are now being made ahead of opening day.

House of Memento Mori opens at 6 Grape Lane, Whitby, on Friday 25 September.

TipSea Wines is now open on Whitby’s historic Grape Lane 🍷🍇

There’s a lovely new reason to wander down one of Whitby’s most charming old streets. TipSea Wines has officially opened the doors to its new wine shop at 1 Grape Lane, and the transformation is well worth a look.

The independent wine merchant has moved from Enterprise Way to this beautiful town-centre spot, bringing shelves of carefully chosen wines, a warm welcome, and plans for evening wine tastings.

And let’s be honest, a wine shop on Grape Lane feels like it was meant to be.

Whether you’re a wine lover, looking for a thoughtful gift, or curious to see how the building has been transformed, pop in and take a look next time you’re in town.

Flying maintenance visit for Dave today inbetween guests!

He did manage to pop in and sample a coffee and have a nosey inside the stunning The Treasury Whitby ☕️👌 So far so good!
