Self-build need in local councils is far from settled.
We recently secured planning permission at appeal for a self-build home in the countryside, despite South Holland District Council arguing it had met its self-build obligations. At the hearing, the Inspector scrutinised the council’s evidence and found that the statutory duty was not being met, giving significant weight to self-build delivery in the planning balance.
Since South Holland published its self-build position, we have identified 10 further countryside self-build refusals.
If your self-build application has been refused in South Holland, now may be the time to revisit your options. A refusal does not have to be the end of the road.
