Bank of England holds interest rates – what does it mean for the property market?

The Bank of England has decided to keep the base rate unchanged at 3.75%. While there wasn't the rate cut some buyers and homeowners had hoped for, today's decision does bring a degree of stability to the market.

For buyers, mortgage rates are unlikely to change significantly overnight, although lenders will continue to review their products based on wider market conditions.

For sellers, demand remains from motivated buyers who are getting on with their plans rather than waiting for the "perfect" time to move.

The reality is that life events still drive the housing market. Whether it's needing more space, downsizing or relocating, people continue to buy and sell regardless of small changes in interest rates.
