It seems important to discuss issues rather than ignore and hope they’ll go away. If we’re silent, what does that say about us? If in 20 years our world has changed for the worse in part because of our silence, what kind of legacy will that be for our children?
Anyone supporting Palestinians, and finding themselves accusing the Jews of genocide, or whatever, if you’re like me, you might be looking into the reasons for what you’re thinking. In one way or another, the outcome of this conflict could be far-reaching and impact all of our lives. Some of you will have looked at the history, as I have. Some of you will claim you’re not anti-Semitic but have a grumble with Zionists. Some of you will know very little about the history, but will see only that babies are dying in Palestine, so understandably, (but mistakenly), you will march in protest against Israel, or protest outside universities, or maybe shout loudly and threaten Israel’s Eurovision singer entry. Greta Thunberg, best stick to what you know about.
I just came across this excellent video, admittedly by an Israeli, so as he sees things from his perspective. Nevertheless, he set out to establish facts and he invites anyone who says his facts are incorrect to tell him. All that I’ve read, supports what he’s saying. That’s to say, I couldn’t fault his facts.
If you’re at the stage that you want to know what’s happening, and maybe why you’re protesting, please look at all of the video. It’s really interesting. Not least that Palestine was offered its own State with its capital in East Jerusalem, but turned it down.
One interesting fact I raked up was that Netanyahu authorised and assisted Qatar in the delivery of millions of dollars ‘humanitarian’ aid taken into Palestine in suitcases via Israel, and safeguarded by the IDF. That doesn’t look to me like a leader whose sole objective was to eradicate Palestinians. There’s also the fact that the population of Palestine has grown massively since 1948. Genocide?
Have a look. I’m not anticipating any interaction. We’re British. Stiff upper lip and all that. ‘Not my business’. But I hope, even if you keep your thoughts to yourself, you’ll find a moment to try to understand what’s happening. I think this video will be a great place to start.
