So, we were asked to complete a shower room and utility refurbishment, as the previous builder hadn't done a very good job.
Not only did they build a block wall on top of screed, on top of insulation board, but they also had a steel beam on top of it.
The rooms were so cold and draughty during the winter months, the clients rarely would go in, even having to put a draught excluder under the door.
As soon as we got stuck in, taking the tiles off the walls and floor, we starting to see why it was so cold. There was no insulation in the cavity, and the wall separating the garage and shower room was just a single skin block wall and didn't have any insulation at all.
So, we had a discussion with the client and agreed to remove the block wall to the external wall and build a stud wall in its place, and then insulating it using Actis Hybris and Actis H control, before plasterboarding. Repeating this on the garage wall.
The existing floor was broken up and a new floor put down, with new insulation, and then new floor boards.
A new steel post to support the beam was installed, bolted and fixed with resin.
