Decorative Textiles: Passementerie Acorns Workshop at the Harley Gallery
An endangered heritage craft, passementerie (the craft of tassels and trimmings) has long stayed in the background of stately homes, adorning curtains and other soft furnishings.

Join us for this half-day workshop to help revitalise the craft and learn basic passementerie skills. Inspired by the sumptuous tassels on the Talleyrand Bed, learn about the intricacies of this craft that celebrates small details. Using a mould, you will learn how to thread and knot yarns to create a luxurious item of home decor.

Techniques covered include:
🪡 Threading and knotting yarns
🧵 Creating a net
🧶 Selecting colours and textures of yarn

Beneath Welbeck lies one of the estate’s most intriguing stories: the network of underground tunnels commissioned by the 5th Duke of Portland, remembered as the “Burrowing Duke.” Built for privacy, movement and grand ambition, these hidden passageways have fuelled imaginations for generations. In October, the thought of lantern light travelling through the dark beneath the estate feels especially spine-tingling. If the tunnels could talk, what secrets would they choose to reveal?

What do you call a Stilton that can’t be called Stilton? Stichelton, of course. 💙🧀

This National Stilton Week, we’re celebrating Welbeck’s own beautifully creamy blue — handcrafted from raw milk and full of rich, complex flavour.

Its distinctive name has a story, too. When the cheesemakers were told they couldn’t use the name Stilton, a loyal Neal’s Yard Dairy customer and member of the English Place-Name Society suggested Stichelton — a 12th-century form of the village name found in the Lincoln Rolls. Derived from the Old English ‘stichl’, meaning stile, and ‘tun’, meaning village or hamlet, it’s a cheese with history in every bite.
